The Story of LifeLife

VieVie are memory products transformed (or upcycled) from textiles with sentimental value.

VieVie is the nickname of Sylvie, which my parents gave me.
A designer in Digital for 13 years, with training in Applied Arts and Crafts, I needed an outlet to get back to working with materials.
I started sewing (to be like my mother) then I started doing floral art in fabrics where I discovered a new passion and discovered rare skills untapped since my studies in Product Design.
As a zero waste enthusiast, I decided to launch Vie Vie, whose name takes on its full meaning.

The trigger

my father and my daughter

I got the idea for VieVie thanks to them. Following the loss of my father when my daughter was 2 years old, the notion of inheritance and transmission became very important to me. These two events marked the genesis of Vie Vie.

Sewing

Sewing is a family affair. My mother was a seamstress in a sewing workshop and I grew up surrounded by piles of fabric. One of my brothers and I helped her with small tasks. By being immersed in this world, I developed my mother's attention to detail. It was one of her creations, a shirt from my dad transformed into a dress for my daughter, that gave me the idea to get into upcycling.

The development

In 2023, I experimented with several upcycled products: purses, fanny packs, bags, memory bears. Then I finally turned to flowers for their language.

Since the summer of 2023, I have been growing the desire to make upcycled flowers because in Chinese weddings in my Teochew community, guests receive a flower boutonniere and keep it once the wedding is over as a souvenir.

In the spring of 2024, I discovered Japanese floral art in silk which is originally French. I made my first roses on other fabrics like on my dad's shirts then I experimented with other flowers and my technique on my uncle's ties by following English, Russian or Japanese tutorials. I sometimes invent my own techniques for want of having the ancestral tools. I enjoy it because this art combines both my skills acquired during my studies in Applied Arts (from bookbinding to painting and prototyping) and knowledge of textiles acquired with my mother.

Encouraged by your comments and those of those around me, I continue to improve my skills to offer you beautiful bouquets and memorial flowers.
